"Happy Birthday Gerard!" squealed Frank. Gerard blushed. "You're a whole 6 years old! I gotted you somephin," he said as he pulled a shoe box out of his backpack. It was wrapped in Spiderman wrapping paper and tied with a messy blue bow. Gerard just stared at the 4 year old. He shook his head.
"You didn't need to get me anything, Frankie," Gerard smiled weakly. Frank's eyes started to water.
"B-but... I gotted it for you myself and I wrapped it and errything! 'Cause you're my bestest friend in the whole world! I needed to get you somephin'!" He stuck the box out towards Gerard. Gerard furrowed his eyebrows and took the box from Frank. Frank's huge hazel eyes looked at Gerard hopefully. He had a big smile on his face. He was just too damn adorable to defy. Gerard plopped down on the ground and untied the bow. Frank sat down in front of him and rested his chin in his hands. Gerard stuck his tongue out at Frankie as he proceeded to unwrap the present. When the wrapping paper was off, he realized it was just a plain shoe box.
"Is it shoes?" he asked. Frank shook his head, a smirk forming on his small face. Gerard raised an eyebrow. "Clothes? Pictures?". Frank shook his head again. Gerard sighed and pushed some dark hair out of his face. He opened up the box and his eyes widened. There were about 20 comic books, all of his favourite superhero team, the Doom Patrol. He looked at the comics then to Frank. Frank was smiling so big that it almost hurt.
"Frankie... How did you afford all these? Comic books are expensive!"
"I saved up all the monies I got all year. Do you like them?" Frank's eyes were filled with hope. Gerard nodded his head wildly.
"I love them, Frankenstein!" Gerard engulfed Frank in a huge hug. Frank squeezed him back tightly.
"You're my bestest friend, Gee," Frank muttered into the older boy's shoulder.
"And you're my bestest friend, too, Frankie. Want me to read some to you?" He broke away from the hug.
"Yeah yeah yeah!" Frank shouted. "Please..." he added shyly. Gerard giggled. He sat on the couch, pulled Frank onto his lap and opened a comic book. He read until they both fell asleep in each other's arms.
